the way i see it here's difference
jimmy fallon gets fired because charges of murder are brought against him due to a video of him chopping someone up with an axe. that is not getting cancelled that is getting fired
jimmy kimmel gets fired because a band of people on the internet repost some of the skits he did with adam corolla and complain how big of a monster he is and they will boycott nbc until they let him go

Peeps' difference is arbitrary, but he can have his definition if he wants.
Not being able to get work is part of the ostracism of cancellation though, accusation of a crime or not. IMO

it varies. i see mr baio is saying his support of trump led to him being blacklisted (canceled if you will)
but is he canceled or just a shitty actor that no-one wants to ruin their project

i can see its still a touchy subject.
Im just surprised there are lots of folks denying how cancel culture works, specially after all this years.

Someone I went to school with was Cancelled. He's basically been ostracized from society and has been unable to find work ever since.
(he murdered his grandma)

yeah, thats true.
I have a friend who works in this huge ad agency. And the stuff thats been happening there is shocking in terms of "there is a rumor about this guy or this girl doing this" and firing them or taking every project they had.

The reasons for cancellation are broad enough in the definition that they could be applied to either.
To cancel someone (usually a celebrity or other well-known figure) means to stop giving support to that person. The act of canceling could entail boycotting an actor’s movies or no longer reading or promoting a writer’s works. The reason for cancellation can vary, but it usually is due to the person in question having expressed an objectionable opinion, or having conducted themselves in a way that is unacceptable, so that continuing to patronize that person’s work leaves a bitter taste.
