The lead character was feeling sitting on her couch, alone, drinking and listening to the song at full volume.
Her friend came in and turned the music off and said, "Are you trying to blow out your ear drums?"
She said, "It's the only way to listen to Pearl Jam."
Then later in the episode a different character referenced the song again in a much more earnest and heartfelt way (because it was the favorite song of the husband she'd lost in Afghanistan).
