Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.
I can't help wondering whether, given that Stone quote about the new album "alienating people like No Code did", this album could've been it.
Hopefully they decide to go this route for the next one. It seems like Stone is definitely willing to give an album some breathing space. It could turn out terribly, but it could also be awesome. They've got a couple of "accessible" albums in the bag in their late career now, it'd be a good time to throw something like that out there.
Definitely. But I just think BoB will fight against that too much. That's what this album is going to be, like a tug-of-war tussle between PJ and BoB
Hence the "go with a new producer" movement. We can hope.

Ed gets to talk about issues without annoying me as well, so that's a plus.

Jeff: "guitar wise this record is so much more interesting to me than the last one"

That's true with what we've heard so far for sure

I could listen to them talk about their own music for hours.

"There isn't really...there isn't any....power chords in the song. Which........which is pretty...neat."

Man, I love when bands get interviewed.

It's funny. When you have their faces in front of you, it's so damn easier not to pick apart everything. You could speculate, but it's far easier to just take their word for it. I don't care as much that they're holding stuff back because I can see it was their professional decision to do so. The overall impression is that they look good and happy. That's kind of hard to argue with. The trouble with a written article is that they're so often written terribly, and insensitively, that they'll have RM scrambling like vultures to get a piece of them. And that's not our fault. We want more info about everything if there's controversy. These articles often stir shit up without ever actually resolving anything for us. I just feel a bit more in touch with the band when I can watch them talking. It may be a construct, but meh... how would I know anyway?

Ha, that makes Matt even cooler! 8-)
I love this interview. It is like they are mirroring parts of this topic here. The part about Stone's unique signature, for instance. And the 'theme' of the album, as far as I am concerned: inspiration. Movies and paintings. I am not even finished watching. Just taking breaks in between. More to watch :).

Mirella :)

If I can understand Bandanese, he might be saying that the bass (two basses!) are driving the music, hopefully in tandem with Matt, rather than the guitar chords. I hope so.

Ed's MFS lyrical discussion combined with Stone and Jeff's comments made me more excited for it, so +1 for promotion.

interesting response to the bush administration about how it made writing hard. I think that comes across in a lot of his more overtly political songs--that the target is so big it's hard to focus on something and be meaningful.
