What's the most you'll pay for a beer, because I just shelled out $18 for a 22oz of that Senor Igor.

I'll pay whatever it costs to get the good stuff. Several years ago I even bought a Sam Adams Utopias. I probably shouldn't have done that, but whatever.

Yeah, that's relative to time/place/beer knowledge etc..

I kid. I'm just not generally a Sam Adams fan

I'm not either. I was a huge fan 9-10 years ago when I was just beginning to learn about beer that was better than the shitty light beers I had been drinking through college. I found out that Sam Adams has tons of varieties of beer and I tried things like Oktoberfests and stouts for the first time. My curiosity was officially sparked, but I really knew nothing about good beer. After reading about it, I figured the Utopias was probably incredible. It had to be if they charged so much and people actually bought it. It was then that I got the Utopias. I don't really regret it because curiosity would've probably led me to buy it eventually anyway. And my initial love of "craft beers" came from Sam Adams and their huge variety. All that said, I haven't had a Sam of any variety in probably five years. There is basically a limitless variety of beers that are exponentially better than anything they have to offer.

Sam Adams is a mixed bag, but then again, who's not? I mean, there are so many styles of beers available to us now, you can't like 'em all, can you? I for one, cannot get into doppelbocks. I even tried a Bells Consecrator, and didn't like it.

Anyway, back to Sams, they have a few I like. However, some of the ones I like / liked, are pretty impossible to find now. Specifically, I liked their Boston Ale. I think they have just given up on this one. It used to be as prevalent as the Boston Lager. Speaking of, the Boston Lager isn't so bad.

I also liked their Black Lager, but good luck finding it. I haven't seen it in years. Their Pumpkin beer is surprisingly good as well. I also liked their Belgium Session Ale; it helped turn my taste buds around for these type of beers. I later found much better Belgium Ales via Ommengang, but Sam helped get me into them.

Anyway, I'll always have a soft spot for Sam and Sierra for helping kick off this golden age of beer.

Here is an interesting article on Sam: http://www.bostonmagazine.com/restauran ... dams-beer/

I've had some very good Sam Adams beers. Costco always has mixed 12 packs. I usually buy them and toss the Boston Lagers and Lights into my basement fridge for parties, but most of their other products are pretty great.

It's been a damn good week for beer buying. Here's what I've picked up:

Bourbon Barrel Buffalo Sweat - We took our award-winning oatmeal cream stout and aged it in bourbon barrels to create a rich, complex, medium-bodied beer with a chocolate-espresso flavor and aroma, and warm bourbon undertones.
Image

Stone Bourbon Barrel Aged Arrogant Bastard - Arrogant Bastard Ale is more than the average human being can ever hope to tackle, much less appreciate. But rather than dialing it back for the masses, we’ve pumped it up for the truly Worthy, sequestering Arrogant Bastard Ale in Kentucky bourbon barrels for several months to take it to places an even smaller percentage of the general population will be able to fathom.
Image

Bent Paddle Black Ale - Brewed to be smooth, chocolatey, semi-roasted ale that bridges the islands of porter and stout. And if you aren’t a fan of bridges, there’s always the canoe. This Black Ale drinks like a porter but is opaque like a stout. Brewed with a generous amount of oats to round out the flavor.
Image

Central Waters Brewer's Reserve Scotch Ale - Cherrywood smoked Scotch ale aged in used 12 year old bourbon barrels. This rich, malty ale has been aged to perfection in our barrel house. Subtle and smooth, this is a decadent display of patience and process.
Image

Surly Nein - "Inspired by a recent trip to Bamberg, Germany. NEIN is brewed with oak-smoked wheat malt, fermented with German Hefe yeast and aged on charred oak. It's a huge, complex, dark beer, delivering the intense flavors of smoked banana, vanilla and clove."

It's ok. I drink it at the place down the street because it's the only IPA on tap.

Man, going from a Bourbon County Brand Stout to a KBS is like going from a Green Flash West Coast to a Miller Lite
