Yeah, it makes sense to me now. Had to think about it a bit, but I can see the appeal in how you described it. Makes sense to play a single song. I hate trying to drop a needle in between two songs on a LP, which is kind of a no-no anyway if you're a vinyl nazi

i'm pretty good at sniping out a mid record song

my hand gets too shaky

i have the little button on my turntable that leaves the needle up, so i can place it where i want then hit the switch to let it drop

Any of you guys have any opinions about Turtable Lab dot com's setup packages?

First time I've seen that. Seems like an easy way to get going without much effort, which can get exhausting.

Some of those turntables are crap though. The Pro-Ject tables are nice.. but I know nothing about any of those speakers

I adore TTL. Been going there for ages, over on East 7th street. Nice people, good stock, very trustworthy. If I needed to jump into this cold, I'd really consider one of those set ups.

Stay away from those Audio Technica LP60 packages. It's a bare bones turntable

Yeah, those look funky. I have a friend who swears by his, but yeah, bare bones.

It sorta takes all the fun out of it.
Part of the reason I'm so into vinyl is the gear... trying different tables, carts, preamps, etc. and finding combos that work well together.

That being said, if this is a reputable place then it can save a lot of time and money if you just get a kit that's been vetted by an expert.

My only advice in all of this is to listen to as many setups/tables/amps/speakers as possible for making a purchase. Or find a dealer that will let you take components home and try them with your other gear before committing.

Yeah, there's no way to customize anything. You can't change the cartridge, and there's no counterweight on the tonearm so you can't even adjust anything. You're just stuck with what the factory says is universally "correct"

I have that turntable and i like it. Ive upgraded the cartridge which made a worlds difference. I cant say for certain about the speakers but I think its a smart way to go. Especially a wonderful upgrade from what you are currently using.

I just need to do something to upgrade immediately that isn't too crazy expensive.

Strat's got you on the right path. That LP120 is a really good player for the price, especially once you upgrade the cartridge.
