Cockfighter was great.

Tried to watch Mortal Kombat, but I decided to go to sleep instead of continuing to watch.

I'm all aboard the Kelly Reichardt train now. Watched both Wendy and Lucy and Certain Women this weekend and loved them both.

Wendy and Lucy was quite the gut punch. Her movies have a way of slowly creeping up on you and gently ripping your heart out.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore

Scorsese. Never seen it before. Interesting start, just 15 minutes in so far. Looks ahead of its time, like it could be from the mid-80s (1974 movie).

You can see its age (1973), but it’s a five star movie. Won 7 Oscars, including best picture.

I enjoy the Oscars for what they are, but it was probably less controversial back then. As a kid we always wanted to watch the big Oscar movies.

I've never watched The Oscars. I'm not a big fan of circle jerks.

They've become so reactionary socially. Which isn't a bad thing to recognize the people of color and women for the awesome work, but it almost seems placating at this point. Too bad the current "woke" Hollywood wasn't woke enough to recognize anyone but white men 20, 30, 40 years ago. I hate how progressive Hollywood thinks it is.

I mean, they’ve always been boring. But it’s so obvious what they are doing now. It’s just irritating how Hollywood claims to be PC and liberal, but the Oscars up until a few years ago are about 30 years late on this stuff. I get that better later than never, but it’s all just so smug and lame.

The "wokeness" of Hollywood is certainly a factor in the horrible ratings, but almost every live event has had bad ratings since the pandemic hit. Being later in the year doesn't help either.
