Of all the problems with it, the worst part is the seriousness. Every award is portrayed as some major battle in the struggle against oppression. I think art is fairly important, but they aren't curing cancer or freeing the slaves here. None of this means anything. The Oscars used to be as much about what the women were wearing and drunken acceptance speeches -it felt like a party- now they can't even have a host for fear that he'll hurt someone's feelings or mock the whole thing.

Bring back Ricky Gervais.

And where is the coolness of Hollywood? I feel like I'm watching a bunch of school teachers.

Another Round is streaming on Netflix, and it’s a joy.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

At first I thought it was no question Uncut Jim was superior but upon second viewing you may be right.

Taxi Driver

Just started. It’s a good movie, I’ve seen it twice before. Hope I will enjoy it that extra percentage I’ve always waited for with this movie before.
