I wasnt going there or being that flippant at all, sorry if it read like that. Ive plenty of trans pals and know too well all the endless shit they get. It isnt a choice either, i shouldve worded that better, i know better than that.

The headline and article have changed since I posted. It now reads:
Nevada says SJSU volleyball match will ‘move forward’ despite players’ call for forfeit

The Nevada-Reno team has declared their intention not to play.
https://www.fox5vegas.com/2024/10/16/ne ... an-player/

The school says it will move forward with the match but will not punish any players who choose not to compete.
Nevada law requires a public university to refrain from forfeit due to gender identity or expression.

The match is scheduled for Oct. 26th.

Busy day for trans tidbits Not super useful without other numbers to compare those to, which the paper didn't seem to mention.

The match, originally scheduled to be played in Reno, has been moved to be played in San Jose, presumably so the SJSU team doesn’t have to travel for a match that’s not going to happen.

UNR cancels volleyball match amid transgender controversy as players plan rally
The school has stated that the reason for forfeiting was “Due to not having enough players to compete.”

Obviously the Nevada team forfeited because the opposing team has a transgender athlete. Nevada law requires a public university to refrain from forfeit due to gender identity or expression. It will be interesting to see if the state imposes punishment on the school or if the law is revealed to be nothing more than posturing.

Was there a recent amendment to this effect, or is this an Obama/ Biden esque interpretation of gender based laws to include gender identity? If the latter, that could pass muster depending on the court in question. If the former, would have thought it would have gotten more push back.

the same people who complained that the Vid is no more deadly than the flu and there is little chance of dying are more terrified at an even smaller chance of a girl who was born with the xx chromosome will play against a woman born with the xy

I too agree that Title IX is dumb and women's sports shouldn't get anywhere near the priority of real sports.

The unworkable nature of self ID being the deciding factor on all this becomes rather more clear when it comes to incarcerated people. In California, for instance, women's prisons don't have a direct equivalent to a SHU (secure housing unit). That among a number of other perceived benefits might incentivize some prisoners to choose to ID as female. Who are we to question their lived experience?

All I know of the law is what was stated in the news article posted earlier in the thread:
https://www.fox5vegas.com/2024/10/17/un ... t-san-jos/
Nevada Constitution Section 24 requires a public university to refrain from forfeiting a game due to gender identity or expression.

In the aftermath of the 5 forfeits against SJSU, the associate head coach of the San Jose State University Women’s Volleyball team, Melissa Batie-Smoose is, according to the school “not with the team at this time.” The school offers no reason as to why she is no longer with the team. In a recent interview, Batie-Smoose said that “the school is trying to silence her” and that “only women should be in women’s sports.”

It’s an ongoing local story that deserves more attention than it’s gotten. I’ve been objective in posting about it. Do you take issue?
