I bought all of my classic rock albums from the same used records shop many years ago as I was starting my collection.... back when a used LP was actually a few bucks (!). Anyways, I would go in there and load up on the Zep catalog, plus the Beatles, Stones, and I would cherry pick the big albums from old artists (Dark Side, Highway 61, Harvest, Rumours, Electric Ladyland) and I still remember the crusty old asshole who worked there making a snide comment about my selections... "it's like someone told you which albums to buy and you're just coming in with your shopping list".

Ugh man that sucks. Pretentious record store clerks are the worst. I went through about a 8-10 year gap where I out my record purchasing on the back burner, so recently I've been trying to fill in holes with some classic records like you mentioned. I find myself willing to pay a couple of bucks extra on shipping from Discogs just so I don't have to worry about the exact experience that you described. Generally all the places I shop locally are super cool and nice... But you just never know when they're gonna hire that Jack Black High Fidelity character haha.

There's also some albums I just am too self-aware and embarrassed to purchase in person. For instance.. The reissue of PJ Ten or Temple of the Dog. I can't walk into Easy Street Records in my neighborhood and buy "Ten". I'd feel like an idiot.

Don't worry about it...the only time I ever went to Bleeker Bob I walked out with reissues of a Depeche Mode album and the Stones Let it Bleed. Not exactly beardy-hipster shit.

I got Stevie Ray Vaughan - Live at El Mocambo, John Mellencamp - Scarecrow, Front Bottoms single. Will try one more store to see if DMB - Live Trax 5 is reasonably priced.

I want that SRV release. Headed to my store now to see if they have it left but I doubt it.

Keep a real close eye on Discogs in the next 24-48 hours (although I don't see a listing for it yet). I've gotten RSD items at reasonable prices as stores put up their leftover stock.

I woulda bought a welcome to the cruel world ben harper RSD. As it stood I just stared at the Fight For Your Mind release and moved on.

Struck out on SRV and got Miles Davis and Velvet Underground instead.

There wasn't any releases for Black Friday RSD here really. Just a few soundtracks and that Garbage debut.
