Just went through Both Chicago shows, Grand Rapids and Cleveland this week. The week started out weird with the Chicago shows. Don't get me wrong, there are some great performances at these shows, but for some reason, it feels like the setlists didn't gel, the crowd wasn't as crazy as Ed expected and they had technical problems the second show. Grand Rapids seems to be where the tour really stretches it's wings. That first encore, IMO still holds up today. They carry those vibes into Cleveland which is another good show, the first encore in cleveland is again fantastic and they end the show with and extended second encore. It seems this first leg they really frontloaded the shows with new songs leading to strange sets this first leg. On to Detroit tomorrow and then up to the Northeast!

It’s been so long but there was something that went down, not anything too serious. I don’t think there was a statement from their manager. But the band had a hard time with the album in the studio. This tour was there “Pearl Jam is back!” Tour and they really rehearsed and I think they just didn’t have the songs down yet. That and they really front loaded the shit out of the new album in the first 7 shows. Keep in mind on 2006, you had this same cliche of Pearl Jam super fans going to every show and they weren’t feeling the way the shows were beginning the same every time and it drove Ed mad I believe by the end of the Chicago shows.

That and I remember hearing at the time he wasn’t happy with playing comatose at the beginning or shows or the end of shows, he used a microphone briefly with the bridge as he felt it did not sound right.. I think after Chicago, they decided to not frontload the shows with the album and starting to play material they are really good at. Again, don’t quote me on any of this, but that’s what I remember.

Grand Rapids, right after Chicago is also when the 10C ticketing "mistake" happened where seniority was disregarded for seat allocation.

Ah yes! That’s what happened. It was hysterical, you had people posting about how they joined the ten club for the 2006 tour and ended up front row at Grand Rapids.

I've been listening to St Louis 03 on my bike rides this week. I love the relaxed feel to the end of the show. I especially like the harmonica jam at the end of Daughter.

It also features a weird throat singing improv before RVM and just an all round great setlist.

Just finished this show. Hell yea that harmonica jam is great. Ed needs to get back to being in the moment and creating shit like this and less sing along bs. Wonderful

Hitting up the 5/27 show in philly, not bad. Totally forgot about prison jam though.

The setup for that in the first set(I think it was the first set, was definitely way before those guys played along on RITFW) was like listening to a 3rd grader read a book report.

Made in through boston and the philly shows from 06, the band really seemed to get it together once they hit the east coast, no shows were perfect, but man do they bring back memories. I'll say this, besides the weird betterman from DC, the DC show from the first leg is really good, so damn good.

I'm currently listening to the 2nd NJ show, I attended both of these shows and yet I don't remember much of them except that they weren't as good as I remembered, odd same 3 songs for each show and they play the old Devils dump in East Rutherford. The power going out night two was a real buzz kill for the show. I'll never understand why they choose there to end the first leg here of all places. It was interesting to hear Ed bring up the old bushleaguer controversy, even thought long island and NJ are NOT the same area at all.

I think he thought it was the same venue and we booed because he was wrong - but of course that only confused him further as he tried to acertain why he was getting booed again. A classic example of Eddie at his most absent-minded.

FWIW, the 2 arenas are only 25 miles away as the crow flies. And it was the closest stop in that particular tour.
