Who is that?
I probably need to go to bed.
She leaves me breathless, that's for sure.

Ah, right, OK. "Lead singer of punk band X." I love to be informed.

This thing is close if they're talking titles in public. Damn I'm getting excited and my hopes are high. Too high, no doubt.

I don't have hopes, because I have no idea what I'm expecting.
It would be nice if it was better than S/T and Backpacer. Even slightly better. That'll do at this point. But I have no high expectations in terms of songs. They haven't written a song I could seriously latch onto as being important to me since, well, Riot Act really.

It has depth, a very "warm" feel to it. Makes you wonder how Adam could produce S/T (which was butchered) after doing such a fantastic job with Riot Act.
No wondering involved. They wanted a different sound to suit the songs in hand and represent how they felt about the time. It's beyond redundant to have the same sound as the last record.
Edit-though we'd all like this record a lot more if it sounded like riot act.

My personal (cynical) feeling is I think they wanted a harsh and abrasive (i.e. brick-walled) sound to make some slightly bland rock songs appear more aggressive because that would bode well with the marketing.

Wasn't there an interview with Ed where he said he just wanted it to be louder? Someone needs to explain to him the principles of recorded sound.

LOL yeah, I think I remember that. It's dumb but funny.

It might not have been Kasper, couldn't it have just been the mastering?

I think the mix isn't great and it then just got crunched. The EPK sounded great so the raw tracks are fine.
This will be a great reissue/remix/remaster in 2021. Lots of outtakes and probably a full concert DVD of one of the Italy shows.

Euck.. enough with the damn Italian shows already. We got Immagine In Cornice and all the other footage on PJ20, time for something else. An Australian show maybe? Those were great.

I agree but they will go with the easy option. Were any other 06/07 tours shot professionally?

I'd be happy to never view any live PJ footage again... not that it's bad.

I don't know if it's because the mastering is so distracting, because that's definitely the biggest problem with Self Titled, but I always thought the mix itself was 2 dimensional.

*Sigh*, I know they will.
One of the Australian shows were shot because there's a little clip on PJ20. I remember a quote from the band or their staff after the 06 tour saying they had "edited footage of every show at their fingertips." So everyone thought they were going to release a 3 disc dvd, a disc for each continent.

well, if you take some of the judgement out of that i'm sure you're right. Riot Act was an album that was criticized by many (and this was the dominant interpretation here at the time) as being lethargic, sluggish, even anemic. And initially, for the people who felt that way, S/T was a breath of fresh air. The loudness, the harshness, the abrasiveness, it all had an intensity and immediacy that felt really good after Riot Act. S/T has some of my all time favorite Pearl Jam songs on it, and I agree that in many cases the production has not done what is actually a pretty strong set of songs much good in the long term, but at the time it sounded alive in a way Riot Act didn't (again, at the time) which was exactly what was intended.

we've gone through this before, but please refresh my memory on the difference between the mixing and the mastering. What does a two dimensional mix mean?

So could it be read that the tour will be an album tour with X supporting? if so, no wonder we over think things around here.
