'Remarkable' is an interesting interpretation of 'not bad'.

It's not that they're unremarkable or dull, they're that too, it's that they don't make sense.

The Jeff quote for instance; at the beginning he's suggesting a reluctance to put his musical ideas and opinions forward because he feels everyone in the band is reasonably accomplished. All of a sudden, however, he now feels he can do that. Why? When did this change happen? Apart from Smile when did Jeff ever play guitar in the band?

Without any further context, it's utterly meaningless. It may as well read "I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."

If these were general, boring reflections on being a member of Pearl Jam and whatnot, that would be fine (if not terribly exciting). As it is, however, it's as though they're being selected by someone who has only a passing familiarity with the English language.

Seriously, though: it's really, really weird.

I wonder if his sandwiches are as good as what the other guys make? He looks like the type of guy to bring his packed lunch into the studio
