Kaepernick used speech and was black-listed by a private company. Trump used speech and is banned by a private company. What's the difference?
The content of the speech, certainly. Kaepernick engaged in peaceful protest, advocating for an end to racially discriminatory policing. Trump used his speech to spread disinformation and encourage violence.
(caveat-The First Amendment regulates governmental response to free speech not private companies' response). I'm less of a free speech absolutist than I was a few years ago. I think if you use your free speech to try to take away basic rights and free speech from others, that's not necessarily something polite society should just nod at and accept quietly.

Real talk here, I think I have a higher tolerance for what we consider censorship in the U.S. than I used to. My life experiences and travels took me to places where kneeling for an anthem or being a dick on Twitter will get you killed without trial. That being said, I just don't like Trump so censor away. That's right, I want to be the arbiter of censorship in this country.

My position on the Twitter ban is that on the one hand it's incredibly troubling to have unaccountable corporations making unilateral decisions on who can participate in what has rapidly become *the* public sphere, but on the other hand it's insanely funny that Trump is spending the last days of his presidency trying to log in to sock puppet accounts so he can keep posting and getting banned over and over, so it's impossible to say whether it's bad or good.
