Gab is kinda interesting. They have their own servers, payment processor, the whole deal. The interface is much better than Parler's.

I'm also not 100% comfortable with Trump's Twitter ban, although I can certainly accept their right to ban whomever they see fit to as a private corporation.

I honestly think their (Twitter/FB) actions are mostly a response to (a) potential liability (although that would be a hard sell to convict) and (b) simple appearances - they want to be seen as responsible corporate citizens.

I can accept a ban from now to Jan 20 but can't understand why that should extend beyond there. I mean the President should be held to a higher standard than others, but once he's just Trump what's the issue? I also feel it is kind of... fucked up... that Twitter and FB get to be the arbiter of that standard. It doesn't feel right to me at all.

I understand Ruddo's points on censorship as well - I'm not totally against it when it's for some overall perceived "good", but this is a hell of a precedent here.

Sure, Trump had the reach of a full press Corp at his disposal but its hard to argue against the reach of his tweets. Hell, his attempt at calming the mob was purposely issued via tweet as compared to a press conference or formal address.

I get banning him for the next 2 weeks and can argue that as a reasonable step for US security. But after that I don't get it.

And again, how fucked is it that this national security decision is made by social media overlords! Where does the real power lie in today's society?
