There was a huge rumour Disney paid the press to rave about how wonderful force awakens was also.

While I don't doubt there's seedy parts to promoting a film I doubt payola happens nowadays.

i was reading some response to that allegation a few weeks back, and the very sensible point made was that, in this day and age, the impact one bad review would have is so minimal, and the chances of getting caught are so high, that it's just not worth it.

Answering the question is throwing fuel on that fire though. They should have ignored it rather than give it legs. So it is a story if they do so. They have a huge following. Sorta irresponsible to address it.
