The antihero thing works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. I think I'm slightly annoyed at how beloved the movie is. If I'd never heard of it or anyone associated with it, it might've blown me away.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

there are a lot of glorious moments. Norma in the studio with everyone around her, the last shot of her coming down the stairs, Joe and Betty walking over the studio at night...

Convinced that Boogie Nights is actually one of the movies that best captures what the 1990s were all about.Mickey wrote:Started Boogie Nights to continue on this Anderson kick.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Watched The Fast and the Furious last night. A legitimately terrible movie that I had fun watching. Like porn, the thing works best when everyone just stops talking and gets down to the action.
Paul Walker really was one of the worst actors I've ever seen who had a real career. The only way to make him look more like a human than a cardboard cutout with a wig on is to surround him no-name dudes like: "More than you can afford, buddy. Ferrari."
The writing is SO bad and the editing is nonsense. It's a movie that could actually stand being longer. I'd love more information and connective tissue.
Vin Diesel owns the movie.
It pales in comparison to 8. (which is the only other F&F film I've seen).
Anyway, I think we're gonna watch 2 tonight? Looking forward to it.
