Not a whole lot of guitar solos in nu-metal songs either

Of course there is, all of those bands had heavy guitar riffs.. not the greatest ones I've ever heard.. but they're at least something

You said "solos". Those are riffs

Either way, there is a dude playing a guitar

It's probably easier to play some of these riffs or drum beats than it is to turn on an iPad.

Pretty sure those are just iPads with fake strings attached.

Fantastic iPad jokes n all, but I'm just not into music made entirely via computer

I dunno, I think your point is kind of flimsy. If the presence of a guitar is all you need to consider a song worthwhile, then that Maroon 5 song that's #5 on the Billboard charts is worthwhile, because it is based around an acoustic guitar riff. I think you're pointing to an overall "artificial" sound to music, and lamenting the fact that the "live in-studio feel" of just four or five musicians playing instruments in a room isn't super prevalent in the charts right now. I get that, but it doesn't really bother me; pop isn't really about that right now, and hasn't been about that for a long time. And yeah, it's fair to say that the basic guitar-bass-drums rock combo is dormant as far as the charts go. But why does it matter? There's a lot of good stuff not on the charts.

Well yeah its out there, it's just in the past you really didn't have to search so hard to find what you like

I don't even blame the musicians either.. it's probably some higher upper saying what needs to be done to stay on top.. you have super talented musicians like jack white or the black keys putting out I have no idea what

It's funny you mention that acoustic riff because I used to say one of the better acoustic riffs on top 40 was in a Bieber song

... you should love Jack White. He's making creative sounds with that electric guitar of his and he's at least trying to be original with all sorts of instruments. The market dictates what's currently popular. People are mostly tired of guitar rock and I don't blame them. If you listen to pop radio you will hear some attempts at new sounds.

I get that but honestly, part of that probably has to do with getting older and liking fewer things

I respect that he's trying to be creative, but I just don't know what to think of that last album.. I want to like it, I really do.. but I don't know what the hell going on half the time

Nailed it. Next time you hear a new song and think it's not good, take a moment to consider your tastes may have frozen in time.

It’s not just about leaving it open long enough for a winner to emerge, but for everyone who wants to to get a chance to vote and possibly comment. Don’t want anyone to feel left out!
