Don't intend to make a "Best Songs of 2019" thread so ima just gonna put this one here.

This is an Aussie bedroom-type fellow doing his own thing and releasing individual songs here and there. I actually really like the song (laid back summer vibes, jangly pop I guess) but what strikes me about it is that my 19 year old Son absolutely could have written this about his own life as it currently stands.

Kitschen Boy - Life in Low Fi

Lately my hearing's weak
Can barely hear when other people speak
Don't see much of what they're trying to say
Nothing makes much sense to me
But I think that it's gonna be alright

My head's fuzzy and I'm miserable
I haven't felt a thing since I left school
I lost my communication skills
And nothing ever really feels that cool
But I think that it's gonna be alright

It's gonna be alright
As long as I can still drive
And see these friends
These friends of mine
I'm just living life in Lo-Fi

So fucking tired that I've hit the ground
Can barely comprehend my surrounds
My head feels like a cargo sounds
It looks like friends might be stickin' round
So I think that it's gonna be alright

Discontent until I'm home alone
I struggle interacting off my phone
Never make good on plans, I postpone
I'll probably break everything I own
But I think that it's gonna be alright

It's gonna be alright
As long as I can still drive
And see these friends
These friends of mine
I'm just living life in Lo-Fi

I've become a millenial manifest
I ignore the people I love best
Just give up on the smallest tests
And can't put up with shit that I detest
But I think that it's gonna be alright

It's gonna be alright
As long as I can still drive
And see these friends
These friends of mine
I'm just living life in Lo-Fi

Quite looking forward to giving this a listen when it comes out

Apparently one song each side of the album, and the songs can be played simultaneously - which is kinda Tool conspiracy theory cool

After a bit of delay, Toronto band Aurochs have finally released their third album, Perdidox. This one consists of two longish pieces that see the quartet further working the edges of their kraut-jazz-minimalism fusion with more subtle but insistent dub-like interventions than before.

Working from home this evening and I've been listenning to the beautiful Lisa Morgenstern album Chameleon. She has recently opened shows for Olafur Arnalds, so that will likely give you a sense of what she's about. The album is produced by Sebastian Plano, whose 2019 album Verve I mentioned earlier in this thread. This is a gorgeous album, all keys and voice.

Here's the album closer, Journey to the End of the Night:

I've been a big fan of Moon Duo for a while now (led by Ripley Johnson, Gandalf-esque guitarist of Wooden Shjips) as a follower of their usually trippy/shoe-gazey vibes. Their new album, Stars Are The Light, has somewhat moved the goalposts to a bit more of a low-key disco, even acid house vibe. But whatever, shit works man. I'm loving this after one listen. Another sweet, hazy listen, ticking my boxes.

Here's "Lost Heads"

New installment of Matana Roberts' Coin Coin project is fantastic. last one didn't do too much for me (but it warrants a revisit after listening to the new one)

Leaked has it? I was lukewarm on Chapter 3 when it came out, but it's grown on me in the years since.

Let's Rock and Help Us Stranger are both the same sort of bland. They don't belong on a best of list.

It's a top 5 Bruce album
It might be top 5 Bruce, but it's still not in the top 5 of the year.

It's better than any of the albums on your list with the exception of Norman Fucking Rockwell.

That's saying that lizzo is better than all but 3 Springsteen albums, which I find impossible to believe

Sound & Fury could end up #1 though. That record is so fucking good.

Top-shelfers, no order:
Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars
Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan - Epistrophy
Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell
Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising

Solid catalog entries:
Bill Callahan - Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest
Brad Mehldau - Finding Gabriel
William Tyler - Goes West

Records that are too long but have some really good parts:
Chance the Rapper - The Big Day
Taylor Swift - Lover

Records that I haven't spent much time with yet but will probably be top-tier:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Ghosteen

There's still a lot of stuff I'm looking forward to digging into (Wilco, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Angel Olsen, Sturgill Simpson, Neil Young), but I'm trying to pace myself.
