For once i agree with the band that this one is ok with only ed and a guitar.

This song takes the themes from Off He Goes, runs circles around it and eats it's lunch. I'm putting this in top EV top shelf with Immortality, Guaranteed, et al.

this is a mature song in all the best senses of that word. only someone with lived-in experience could write this and record this with such an open and weary heart.

Yes, best decision the band made. Can not improve on what's already there. I have to think the band members were stunned by this tune. I can see Stone in particular being leveled by it. The lyrics carry the song and keep you hanging for the next part. Brilliant.

The lyrics are great yeah...they really are very good. It wasnt what i was expecting for a cornell´s song, its way better.

It's so endearing and real.

BelieveYouMe wrote:This song is just phenomenal. The lyrics, the guitar, Ed's voice. The most personal song we've heard him write in a long time. I hear a little Parting Ways and Seasons in this.
This one floors me as much as DOTC. I REALLY didn't expect to get an Ed song I would love this much. Thank God for Josh Evans knowing how to capture Ed's voice and guitar. Perfection. Am I crazy to think I will hold this one up as high as Off he Goes?!

I think this one whups Off He Goes' behind. Off He Goes is great, and but don't have lyrics that cut through like this, and OHG also has the band helping to carry the tune. This is in Black and Immortality territory in terms of lyrical mysticism. I put this one with what the greats have - Townshend, James Taylor, and modern great lyricists like Jason Isbell. He accomplished this 30 years into his career. Impressive.

That’s a weird way to look at it. Ed was at a completely different stage of life in 1996. Off He Goes is a great song.
And, so is Comes Then Goes. Just an amazing all-around performance, captured in a way I don’t think we’ve ever heard from a studio PJ song.

I think this song is great, but it doesn't give me much of an emotional reaction; "Off He Goes" is a very different story

I feel way more compelled to CTG than Off He Goes. I relate to it more these days, while OHG seems really inmature at this point.
Its still such a good song, and sounds so fucking good.

I feel as if OHG is so concise and says so much in so few words
"like he's riding on a motorbike in the strongest winds" is a simile I really enjoy
"I wonder about his insides,
it's like his thoughts are too big for his size;
he's been taken, where I don't know;
off he goes with his perfectly unkempt clothes"
I love all of that
I don't know, I think OHG sounds like dusk, this song sounds like dawn; I can't pick, glad to have them both

yeah, both of them are great.
All im saying is that i respond more to CTG´s lyrics because of what it says, i feel i get it.
