I think a surprising number of us would agree that this was the penultimate Gigaton track, if askedFarmer John wrote:Can we get poll?Jaeti wrote:This is true for me, too.Farmer John wrote:This is the penultimate Gigaton track.
On my first listen, I thought the same thing about this track. Even 30 listens later, that has not changed.Farmer John wrote:This is the penultimate Gigaton track.
although not nearly the case when i listen on shuffleMs Harmless wrote:I think a surprising number of us would agree that this was the penultimate Gigaton track, if askedFarmer John wrote:Can we get poll?Jaeti wrote:This is true for me, too.Farmer John wrote:This is the penultimate Gigaton track.
interesting observation! I shall have to experience this myselfstip wrote:although not nearly the case when i listen on shuffleMs Harmless wrote:I think a surprising number of us would agree that this was the penultimate Gigaton track, if askedFarmer John wrote:Can we get poll?Jaeti wrote:This is true for me, too.Farmer John wrote:This is the penultimate Gigaton track.
I was like YES YES YES YES YES... NO! NO! like we were making love and it ended with you accidentally elbowing me in the faceOmegaprimeVKM wrote:I can see there's somewhat of a collective shrug of the shoulders to this one here...it's certainly a retread and doesn't surprise me that this is the reaction it garners. It holds the same mood as Yellow Moon and Amongst The Waves - staring into the sunset across a barren wasteland, with Vedder's Into the Wild vocal reverb effects chucked onto the end.
I actually feel that people would feel a lot better about this if this was, at least officially, the album's closing notes. There's that grandiose aspect and a finality to the closing notes.
I'm probably alone on this but I really like it. River Cross doesn't belong on the album - it should be a b-side or something.

I like the way they fit together. Retrograde is so much more at peace with these struggles than the rest of the album, and River Cross is such a funeral, that they feel very effective.Ms Harmless wrote:I was like YES YES YES YES YES... absolutely, like a euphoric sublime thought that takes flight, but then comes back to earth with the reality of lifeMcParadigm wrote:I like the way they fit together. Yep. Not central like Alright and 7 oclock, but the climactic track that releases alot of the tension of the album. A classic PJ moment that doesn't feel forced and fits the album very well.theplatypus wrote:I just checked the tracklist and yupJaeti wrote:This is true for me, too.Farmer John wrote:This is the penultimate Gigaton track.
Penultimate literally means “next to last” or “second to last”.Tuolumne wrote:Yep. Not central like Alright and 7 oclock, but the climactic track that releases alot of the tension of the album. I'll give it a few more listens, but I also agree Retrograde would be improved as a closer, and that River Cross isn't that great but maybe I'll change my mind later.OmegaprimeVKM wrote:I can see there's somewhat of a collective shrug of the shoulders to this one here...it's certainly a retread and doesn't surprise me that this is the reaction it garners.
