RM is about a group of people trying to work together with mutual respect, despite the inappropriate actions of their boss (B) and assistant mods.

For a certain period a user on this forum used satire to expose unacceptable behavior and we would like to deliver a message of inclusion.

Today we deleted the user Sgt. Crackpot who employed an avatar wearing blackface from the movie Tropic Thunder. Blackface is unacceptable and making the point so graphically is hurtful and wrong. Even if the satirical point of view wasn't a racist intention, interpretation trumps everything. We're sorry for the pain that was caused.

doesn't matter. Things are inherently racist now. and it makes people feel bad, so its wrong.

i enjoy that hollywood seems to be unsure of how to slander the tropic thunder performance

it's like they know it was: 1) funny 2) not hateful 3) kind of critical of black face 4) robert downey junior (way hot right now) - but at the same time 5) still blackface

so they just don't know what to do

so in the meantime while they refuel their protest tiki torches they will try to find some more low-hanging fruit

maybe he's the guy the world needs to 'tell it like it is' to get people to try to see the shades of grey and stop blasting everything indiscriminately as though it's all so easily black and white (pun intended)

People tried to come for RDJ like two years ago and it didn't work.

The brilliance of Tropic Thunder is that nothing is sacred. The film mocks everything "wrong" with Hollywood: product placement, drug use and addiction, problematic productions, megalomaniacal producers that are more interested in making money than telling stories, and the ludicrousness of Hollywood using serious subjects as money-making fodder.

RDJ's blackface is no different, as it is shown as part of the same ridiculousness of Hollywood, nor does it go unaddressed in the story. Brandon T. Jackson played the role of Alpa Chino, a rapper attempting to break into acting. He doesn't let Kirk off the hook, and even claims that he's making the movie to offer some "real representation."

Tropic Thunder was ahead of it's time.

That's really all that most of these modern instances of "blackface" (which this isn't really) are.

I got a buddy who dressed as Lil Wayne in like 2009 or so for Halloween. Several people thought he was actually black. If I’m honest I was pretty creeped out by it at the time. I was ahead of the curve with my wokeness.
