Aesthetics are a powerful and sometime unexplainable thing.theplatypus wrote:It's not a bad thing, but it evinces some kind of failure in critical thinking. Yea and i dont understand why this is a bad thing or why we shouldnt then like this song

i really like the single. Ed is great, Mike´s solo is very good, the ending is pretty good too....great song.
Still i agree with Platypus...if the foos release something like this, most of the people here would be saying it " just an ok song".
Anyway, this first single is great.

You can subdue your critical analysis when taking part in such an emotional medium. That doesnt make you less able to accurately judge your enjoyment.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I think, with a lot of artists I like, the actual nuts and bolts of the songwriting is secondary to the overall sound created by that particular bunch of musicians. That isn't to say it's not still important, of course it is, but what I like about Pearl Jam (or The Cure or Unwound or Shellac or Sonic Youth, etc.) isn't attributable to songwriting alone. There's a unique noise that this particular bunch of people make when they play together that I respond to: great songs are a (very welcome) bonus.Strat wrote:Ledbetterman10 wrote:That's how it is for me for the most part. I think that's one of the reasons I'm frequently jarred when a band alters their line-up, it often results in a pretty dramatic alteration of that base sound. Pearl Jam have navigated that incredibly well over their career. They've really been four very different Pearl Jams. On the other hand, The Cure (despite being my favourite band of all time) pretty much dropped off the radar to me creatively after Boris Williams quit as their drummer. Good songs alone aren't enough if the underlying feel doesn't work for me any longer. I have similar feelings about Queens of the Stone Age too.

This. A meal doesn't need to be lobster and steak to get excited about it nor does it need to be to genuinely enjoy the meal. Sometimes a nasty ass Big Mac hits the spot even though there are a million better burgers out there.Strat wrote:theplatypus wrote:Yes, Strat, that's clearly what I'm saying. This makes no sense to me. That's like saying if Rossane Barr gave blow jobs identical as Kate Beckinsale that I should enjoy them the same.VinylGuy wrote:

Im worried about the new "Replacements" but if their EP is any indication then the vibe that made the replacements great - is still there...
