i read that pft story this morning too, which failed to mention how much schiano was already using zone coverage anyway. either way, it does make sense to reduce revis's cap hit.
The problem with this is that while their 2014 cap is OK for now, their 2015 cap could get tight, especially if they restructure Revis. Cutting Revis gives them a lot more room in both years.
ive been kind of annoyed with all the Revis talk on twitter today, the dude is still probably one of the best Corners in the league when healthy and he will be 100% healthy next year. i understand that he is making a lot of money if he isnt gonna be playing man to man, but i really doubt Lovie has even made a comment on Revis since being hired so this is a lot of speculation, and Good coaches adapt to the talent they have, they will make it work. i was definitely against going after him last off season because of the draft pick cost, but that is over and done with and i want him as a Buc now. hopefully they just leave it as is for now, if he isnt able to be used right, or he under performs then you cut him and free up all the cap space, if he plays like Revis and they make the D work with him then you restructure his contract to get him some guarantee money and lessen the cap hit
Nobody is saying that Revis isn't good. The question is whether it's wise to spend $16 million on Revis if his excellent skill is going to be underutilized in the defensive scheme that Lovie Smith may prefer--or if they should use that money to help fill other holes. I'm not going to predict that the Bucs will cut Revis, but the chatter about it does make some sense.

yeah, it definitely does, i just think its too early to be thinking about getting rid of talented people when there isnt a salary cap issue yet, and im not sure who in FA they may want to go after, but i think the money is gonna be fine for some good players as well as for all the draft picks.
If Lovie and Marinelli plan on going back strictly to the Tampa 2 then they could pick up someone not as expensive to do all that is needed in that scheme, but im pretty sure they were only using it part time in Chicago like a lot of 4-3 schemes do.
i didnt want him last year but now that he is a Buc i want him to stay.....but unfortunately i dont get a say in that

Happy to see Hardy Nickerson back in Tampa as a linebackers coach.

It helps when two of the board's top seven posters are Bucs fans.

Not a fan of the trend to make road unis have the shoulders be a different color.

Need to see more before I make a final judgement. The Nike redesigns have been very hit or miss so far.

Hits: Seattle/Miami
Misses: JAX/Potentially these

Just. Awful. I'd rather have the creamsicle Orange uniforms than these. Ugh. Dreadful. This isn't the xfl.

The Lovie Smith love is really blowing up down here. There is some serious excitement for the Bucs right now. It seems like the fans in Florida are all in on him. People are legitimately high on the Bucs for the first time in a while.

This makes no sense to me. Wasn't the whole point of getting rid of Revis being that you wouldn't have to pay big money on CBs in a Tampa 2?

Revis won't be around after tomorrow...

Shame that we traded 2 draft picks for one year of service, but that was the old crew.

It's a new day in Tampa Bay!

Looks like the Bucs might try to sign McCown, probably draft another QB, and have McCown groom him and/or Glennon for the future.
