I thought it could be 'held you high above true' but maybe that doesn't make sense.

That's the bit that frustrates me because the lyrics should go all Pink Floyd / Sgt. Peppers at that point and they don't. It sounds like he started with the intention of writing some really trippy shit and it gradually changed into a love song.
