Mirror effect ---> Poster effect ---> Push the contrast until it gets distorted/starts breaking up ---> Mess with the saturation until you get colors you like ---> I then cloned out a few spots I didn't like

Ah ok, I should've know it required some skill and artistic ability. Something I don't have.
Do you do this kind of thing as a living?

Kinda. I mostly do video work now, but yeah, I know my way around Photoshop.

t2b - I'd like to offer some constructive criticism - and it's more on the constructive side than the criticism side, surprised?
I don't take photos so fit that into whatever context feels right. I do paint, or used paint regularly, not so much these days, but for most of my life anyway. so there's that too.
anyway - I think in general your photos have gotten better here, although none have been 'bad', but they sometimes feel contrived (maybe that's your desire, i dunno) - I think you'd do very well to not play so much with your photos (good photoshopping skills or no) and add some focus to what you see in front of you before taking the photo.
some of the photos I've looked at from you in this thread are very nice, compositionally, but I find myself not happy with some of the effects you add to them. and just to give you a bit of perspective on my comments - this is a problem I have with most of what I paint, I think of it as trying too hard instead of allowing something to occur. maybe I'm just telling myself this instead of you in that case.

Mal, thanks for the constructive criticism. I agree with you.
I have said in this thread (maybe on the old board) that my photos generally lack subtlety and I need to work on my composition. I have imaged photos for years, but didn't shoot anything (beyond vacation photos, anyway) until Zeb called for more people to post photos in this thread. I do like effect-driven photos and enjoy creating "something out of nothing".
Basically, I enjoy the post-production process way more than the actual photography.
