Totally, he's kind of a dick initially, so that makes it difficult to get into his character. However, as the show progresses, so does he, it's going on the entire series, but it doesn't really hit you till later.

I was a little disappointed they never really followed up with this guy,
Spoiler: show
after we see him in a gay bar.

I think Rawls' story actually works backwards from that moment. When you watch the series again, you notice all the times you notice all of the blowhard, uber-masculine references he makes as he tries to "fit in" with the boys at the office. He's extremely repressed, and he becomes a sad, sympathetic character in a way.

It's so cute how this show is so impressed with things like text messages.

I don't think it's dated too too much, considering it's a geezer like Lester who can't figure out what a picture message is.

When the show was being filmed, these things weren't that mainstream. Texting and picture messages were around, but they weren't as prevalent as they became later.

What i didn't get is why McNulty doesn't have a cell phone until like season 4. Season one was made in 2002 I think, I had a cell phone in 2001 and I was poor and 16 years old.

This is pretty much how I'd rank them.

Ziggy is the only character in the series that felt like a cliche.
