Nothing grates me more than the fact that the band is so enamored of templated norms that they even have one for how to track their goddamn records.
Yeah it's really stupid

While there's alot of upsides to having 5 songwriters in the band, this is one of the downsides. While I don't believe the band has been on autopilot by any means in terms of coming up with songs and the live show, they've fallen into a formula with tracklisting. My biggest problem with Lightning Bolt is tracklisting (which are also problems for me with Binaural, S/t, and Riot Act). They did great with song sequence with Yield (for which the aforementioned 'formula' first started) as well as Backspacer so it does work sometimes. I think it's the only way for the 5 of them to come to agreement on these things. To their defense, it's hard for 5 people to even order a pizza together, so I can't imagine how hard it must be to sequence the songs. Maybe they should just leave it to one member of the band to do it. Maybe they'll get it right one day......

I probably like Getaway even more than I did when I first heard it. Their best rock song since Yield, possibly Vitalogy. Infallible is still my number 1 on the album though. And an overall top ten PJ song.
I agree, Getaway is one of my favorite rockers they've ever done. It's a classic as far as their rockers go. It's not too punky, not to poppy, it's got that classic PJ drive and Jeff/Matt are locked in and Ed is throwing all of himself into the vocals with abandon. I love it.

Getaway is great. A top 20 PJ song for me. Infallible is the definite top 10 song on this album. Pendulum is another top 20. Yellow Moon and MFS are just outside my top 20 but still great.

Getaway is pretty good. Definitely feels like a Yield era song to me (a lot of the songs on Lightning Bolt seem like they could fit in with the songs from past albums)

Oh.

Then I'm just butting in, and that's incredibly rude.
