Thank you. I absolutely loved it and the mixed reception it got from a lot of people kinda baffled me. I think it's his best movie.

I don't know why it baffles you. The movie is too subtle for people to find meaning in it. It didn't bother me, but I don't have faith in the general public.

It got a mixed reception from film scholars and creators, too. This is not a "the general public is stupid, man" thing.

I thought it was great. I saw it the morning after a debaucherous night and it was the perfect hangover movie-- harmonious, measured, and beautifully shot. And yes, I liked it more than "There Will Be Blood".

I really loved how open-ended it was. TWBB is beautifully shot and acted but the actual plot just feels like this long, linear slog into darkness. The Master on the other hand was so ambiguous and true to life, and Phoenix's character and acting were just incredible. Several scenes made me laugh or gave me chills within the same few minutes. I also loved the colors they used, lots of beautiful reds and seafoam blue/greens. Just a great movie.

I think it's his best film, or at least up there with Blue Velvet. And I think it blows Mulholland Dr. out of the water. They're somewhat similar movies, but I find Lost Highway to be more consistent and just generally freakier and more haunting, without going too far into the unnecessarily and distractingly absurd or the surreal, a line Mulholland Dr. may have slipped over a few times. Absurdity and surreality are important elements of both films, of all his films, but there's a point where it's too much and it loses its effectiveness.
A similar (and equally great) movie to Lost Highway to check out is polanski's The Tenant.
Please consider voting for me

The surrealism in "Mulholland Drive" is in service to its oneiric nature, which is driven by jealousy and obsession. I agree that they're similar movies, and I like them both a lot, but as a whole there's more for me to grasp onto in "Mulholland Drive". Once you get a sense of the story, you realize it's rich with pathos in a way that "Lost Highway" isn't. It also feels more whole, fully formed story to me. I don't find a whole lot that's distractingly absurd about it-- "Inland Empire", though, is another story.

I watched Lost Highway and basically had a blast. I think it might top Blue Velvet for me.

:nice: That's surprising that you liked it so much considering how much you didn't like Mulholland.

Well then maybe you can tell me what the hell was going on in the plot.

But his movies sure know how to keep you watching regardless.
