Strat wrote:I get rubbed the wrong way when both sides (whatever that means) turn the case to his character. As if that matters. That makes the conversation about what a man's life is worth. I know there are emotions involved and its just going to happen, but i think that is what is inherently wrong with it all to begin with. That conversation should'nt need to happen, but unfortunately, racial war is a very real thing i believe. I dont care if the guy was on crack, molested a kid, or was a church going saint. The fact is he was an unarmed man that was blatantly gunned down and killed by a police officer. Ultimately, I think that is what most protestors want justice for and what needs to happen but its not gonna get there as long as the conversation is about who Michael Brown was.
Which would be right if we knew all the facts- and at this point we don't. We don't know if he was an "blatantly gunned down" at this point. And that's where character HAS to play a role.
If the person that was gunned down never had any history of violence or criminal behavior, then it makes it less likely that in that moment he decided to charge a cop. It would have been out of character, allowing us to give more weight to his friends version of events.
Given we know this individual had a problem with authority, and would resort to violence/intimidation when confronted, that makes it far easier to believe the police officers version of events.
We're never going to know exactly what happened (rarely do we), so the information of character MUST play a role, because you're dealing with What If's, Most Likelys and Could Haves.

No, peeps. Facebook is
not a great place to watch people be my opinion on movies.
Don't worry, though, little buddy. You'll get there. You just keep right on trying.

or we could wait to learn more of the facts and only comment on the facts we know to this point (no character studies necessary).
another child has died in a place and situation that is too common in our country.
he was shot by a person trained and authorized to use force when it's warranted.
the relaying of information to the public pertaining to the events leading up to and just following said child's fatal shooting was and has been inadequate and frustrating given this type of situation's commonness.

You go ahead and fight the fight of people not sharing opinions based on the information they have.

i'm just saying...
we could. or maybe, more accurately, one could if it so upset them that others were not taking this approach. in a sense, not being a hypocrite?

twitter is good for up to date news in sports etc...
FB is still good for what it is but i tend to hide folks who post too much god/political nonsense

Twitter has been an outstanding tool for live on-site news and firsthand accounts from media and protesters alike.

Twitter is incredible. I ignored it up until a month ago and I'm really regretting waiting on it for so long.

actually i'm not, b/c i don't need an account to get any of this information from twitter.
now, i only go to twitter for sports updates (trade-deadlines, the start of free agency, and the draft), but i don't need an account for that either.
i guess i was more thinking the fb comment peeps made and applying it to both sites. i don't hate the mediums, but i still prefer to get an initial report and then wait for more facts.

Facebook mostly seems like a good way to voyeurize about other people's family problems and food intake, and to occasionally repost motivational e-cards.

My biggest issue with Facebook is the newsfeed. If it isn't a paid advertisement, it's a post from the same 2 or 3 people. All variety has disappeared. I think it is a great organizational tool for groups and meet-ups.

No single RM poster manages to be anywhere near as self-absorbed as most Facebook walls. Do they call them walls? Also, there are fewer comments clearly aimed at a person or group of people who remain unidentified, a'la "If you don't like my attitude then maybe you should DO YOUR DAMN JOB and stop telling me how to do mine," and less discussion regarding how people get mad because I "tell it like it is lol."
But otherwise, yes.
