I've been getting into Weezer for the past few weeks. White album is mostly really good, and Everything Will Be Alright in the End has some real awesome moments and both have been fitting the summer vibe around here. I had given up on them after the Green album back in the day, but I'm pleasantly surprised with a lot of the stuff I missed.

After Everything Will be Alright and White Album came out I was excited at what would come next.

Unfortunately its mostly been garbage.

OK... so it seems most people who used to like Weezer believe they don't put out any good songs anymore... Van Weezer isn't great and is a bit disjointed and feels overpolished to my ear at times, but here are two great songs from the album that could be ranked up there with anything else in their catalogue. People are probably mostly nostalgic about their first two albums.

I like it, but haven't given it much of a thorough listen yet. There's a good video on YouTube of them playing it in its entirety with the orchestra, which is an interesting watch. Bird With a Broken Wing is my current favorite from it, but the album is just not the sound I'm craving from them lately (White album!). I'm finding more and more that Rivers is very talented and I've been underestimating him for many years, in part due to his humble nature as a human being, but also because of the general negative reaction to them since the Green album. There's something simply brilliant about his approach to songwriting, but I can also see what frustrates many people about it. I will tell you what has me excited, the prospect of them doing an Elliott Smith inspired album. I bet it sounds somewhat like BWABW.

A lot of bad lyrics on this Gold album, but my God the guitars sound amazing. Almost every track has that In the Garage crunch with little Tired of Sex flourishes of fuzz. I still try to lift weights for 30-40 minutes a few times each week. I can see this being a regular for a while. It’s pretty fun.

Just re-read the first page of this thread and hell yes to Miss Sweeney. That song and Pig are brilliant and better than anything on Red.

Much as I like the new album and am impressed by the current setlist, I could not bring myself to go to the show tonight. They’re just so goddam boring live,

the first time I saw them was in Vegas when they played Blue and Pinkerton all the way through, back to back; It was a real high-water mark for seeing Weezer. The next 2 times I saw them ranged from fine (festival-lite show in Toronto where they covered Paranoid Android) to "did they forget to submit a full setlist?" Either way they were perfectly enjoyable shows, but I can see how Rivers can be unengaging

First time I saw them was on the Pinkerton tour at First Ave. They played all of Pink and most of Blue. More importantly, Matt Sharp was still in the band. He was the show. Placebo opened.

I’ll co-sign on the Make Believe support. Loved it when it came out. Perfect Situation is a perfect Weezer song, the album is just good Weezer. And yes to Ms Sweeney… weird but great.
