Re: Albums of 2015
Just got through listening to this and it was pretty enjoyable. Rachel Grimes is a pianist and composer who was a member of the now-defunct chamber rock ensemble Rachel's (whose name had nothing to do with her). This is her second album, and first for Temporary Residence; it's a more fully realized work of contemporary chamber composition as opposed to the solo piano stuff from her debut.

This one's for SNC, but everyone should def. give it a listen.
2 piece from Adelaide South Australia, The Hard Aches. Debut album out 12th June. Here's I Get Like This that I just can't get out of my head. They are looking at being in my town in a few weeks, if so I'll definitely be catching them. I love this sort of stuff - honest, straight forward, emotive. Good shit.
You are welcome.

Re: Albums of 2015
This one goes into the "lazy sunday, slightly stoned, chilled listen" category. Canadian/New York duo Bob Moses released All in All recently. Apparently it's "music that will make you want to build a highway through a low income neighbourhood" whatever that means. File under "stuff the wiffey likes".
Here's Far From the Tree, the lead off track.

Re: Albums of 2015
Another new thing I recently listened to that was somewhat enjoyable, but may not quite be for me. Others might get a kick out of it, though.
Jaga Jazzist - Starfire
I'm vaguely familiar with the band, mostly in that they've garnered comparisons to Tortoise, who I really like. "Starfire," the title track, is my favorite cut from the album. The rest of the songs are decent but seem to meander quite a bit more than the style warrants, whereas the title track is memorable and to the point.

Something else that's really neat is the new project underway by Justin Small, a member of Do Make Say Think. He's writing, recording, mixing and mastering one new song a week for 52 weeks and is releasing them in a subscription-type format for one Canadian dollar each. It can be opted into or out of at any time. Basically, you pay a dollar a week for a year and get a new song a week for a year.

The new Jedi Mind Tricks is a VERY welcome return to form. Stoupe is back in, Jus Allah is back out - the way it should be. Really diggin' the album.
