stone wrote almost all the music for ten so i think he'd be just fine. maybe not 'diamond selling album' fine, but fine.
really, all the guys would have done well in one form or another, they just wouldn't be in the world's biggest band from 92-94.
also, i'm even more bitter about the antiquiet tweet now that jeff has said the pearl jamz are still only halfway done.
maybe that's the name of the record and it's one giant ruse.
Halfway Done

I like your optimism. But, I'm not sure why they'd be secretive about it since they don't really create a lot of buzz these days. Plus, those guys have all been out touring with their various bands. Just doesn't seem likely we'll be getting anything this year (again).

It makes perfect sense though. They were halfway done 2 years ago, they haven’t given a fuck about working further on the new songs ever since, so they’re still halfway done. Simple, really.

And, I guess the album could be 6 or 7 songs.

I've been laughing quietly to myself about your RIP PEARL JAM

campaign but this past week has me inching over to your way of looking at things.
So, they had a meeting with BO'B and then decided... that RNDM should tour more? The lack of passion is kind of astounding, especially when they're still scheduling tour dates.

I wish I could find Spenno's post from awhile back about the band's apathy - something about Jeff laying around on his couch waiting for Ed to call.

I just think it says something in fanboi strat feels this way. It really kind of saddens me.
Im fine with bands taking breaks and stepping away from it if they feel the creative spark is not with them at the moment. However, scheduling shows and milking their fans for their money while they can't be bothered to put their best foot forward just doesn't sit right with me.
If you need a break - take a fucking break - a real fucking break.
i respect the shit out of Ament for not sitting around.

Completely agree. I think a lot of fans were really excited about the band after they finally got through all the PJ20 nostalgia.

yeah that's my point. i'm johnny fanboi watson and this is getting to me. i could deal with the long wait, the side projects and the festival shows b/c i was certain they'd be releasing something this spring at the latest. now they're not even sure about 2013.
it's convinced me they need something to reinvigorate them with new energy. in the old days that meant new drummer but they're not going to do that now.
i haven't been this guy at all, but now i think there's something going on behind the scenes. more than just "we have a lot of side projects going on right now" or "there's a soundgarden tour." that's a convenient excuse.
eddie if you're reading this (and i know you are under the name "quadrofeenia"), please give me some good news.

I disagree. If all they can offer is a tour, give the fans the tour. If they don't have the creative spark, don't produce the album. Some fans won't go to that tour without new material, but some fans will - esp those that missed out on previous tours.

does anyone here only go if they are supporting a new album?

If they aren't feeling sufficiently inspired to put out an album I'd rather they didn't bother. I already don't really like the last two albums so the last thing I need is another whole albums worth of mediocre material clogging up the setlists.

Because nothing is more fun than a live show by an artist who is so disengaged from their muse that they can't be bothered to create anything but are still more than happy to get paid to masturbate in public.

I'd prefer them to release nothing instead of a half-tempered color-by-numbers set of middle-aged rockers

I agree with that sentiment...mostly. But I don't understand the appeal of catching a show by a band in that kind of state, either.
Honestly, I'm at the point of indifference....I haven't gone to a Pearl Jam show in ten years, now, and I doubt if I'll feel all that motivated to at any point before they retire, so it doesn't effect me one way or the other. But I'm also at work and incredibly bored, so...you know...what the hell. Thought I'd amplify a bit. Better loud than in waves, or whatever the kids are saying these days.
It comes down to, I just can't get interested in a band that isn't creating. Frankly, if the output level is high enough, I'd even rather follow an artist who is farting out those half-tempered albums every 18 months and never touring than one who takes 4 years between albums and yet tours regularly....in my experience the former is far more likely to stumble upon their creative spark again, simply because they are focused on something new, while the latter tends to just keep growing more and more comfortable with the idea of coasting on something very old.
