is a huge LDR shift in her music actually a huge shift? or is it just a huge shift in comparison to her previous releases.
like, is a huge shift for her kind of like dad making crock pot oatmeal instead of microwaveable oatmeal?

Re: Lana Del Rey is better than Radiohead
I wouldn't say this is a huge shift (from the previous 3 summer songs to this new one). It's subtle but it's significant. The other songs felt like LDR by numbers a bit to me. Coming off of how great Chemtrails was, those songs felt like throwaways to a degree. Maybe a full album context will change that. But this song feels vital. It's not so much a change in sound or style or anything like that. Just a small shift in songwriting and investment.bodysnatcher wrote:is a huge LDR shift in her music actually a huge shift? or is it just a huge shift in comparison to her previous releases.

Still haven't heard the new one. Loved the last album, the 3 new singles were okay so I'm rather keen to hear this next album.
Wasn't it to be released in June?

Re: Lana Del Rey is better than Radiohead
It had two different early release dates and two different titles, I think. First it was "Rock Candy" to be released on June 1st. Then it was "Blue Banisters" to be released July 4th.LetMeSleep wrote:Still haven't heard the new one. Loved the last album, the 3 new singles were okay so I'm rather keen to hear this next album.

I'd genuinely love the inside scoop on what happened.

The song is pretty blah. I liked Blue Bannisters

I like how she sings it, I love the change-up at the end, but the lyrics just aren't to my taste.

I'm not really sure what the lyrics are outside of the opening lines. I need to listen to it more, I think. But lyrically content isn't really a priority for me. But I totally get how that could be something that drops the song for you.

Re: Lana Del Rey is better than Radiohead
You know I'm revisiting those earlier tracks and they're really fucking good. I like them a lot more now than I did when they dropped. I think Arcadia gave them some helpful context. Or maybe it's just distance from Chemtrails?Bi_3 wrote:The song is pretty blah. I liked Blue Bannisters

Re: Lana Del Rey is better than Radiohead
Is there a more quintessential LDR song than Brooklyn Baby? I've been playing it...a lot.
Crazy.Wikipedia wrote: Del Rey said that she wrote the song with Lou Reed in mind. She was supposed to work with him and flew to New York City to meet him, but he died the day she arrived. He is referenced in the line "And my boyfriend's in a band/ He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed".
