is a huge LDR shift in her music actually a huge shift? or is it just a huge shift in comparison to her previous releases.

like, is a huge shift for her kind of like dad making crock pot oatmeal instead of microwaveable oatmeal?

I wouldn't say this is a huge shift (from the previous 3 summer songs to this new one). It's subtle but it's significant. The other songs felt like LDR by numbers a bit to me. Coming off of how great Chemtrails was, those songs felt like throwaways to a degree. Maybe a full album context will change that. But this song feels vital. It's not so much a change in sound or style or anything like that. Just a small shift in songwriting and investment.

Still haven't heard the new one. Loved the last album, the 3 new singles were okay so I'm rather keen to hear this next album.

Wasn't it to be released in June?

It had two different early release dates and two different titles, I think. First it was "Rock Candy" to be released on June 1st. Then it was "Blue Banisters" to be released July 4th.

I'd genuinely love the inside scoop on what happened.

The song is pretty blah. I liked Blue Bannisters

BB was the best of the earlier three she dropped, I agree.

This is better than BB though.

He's not listed on Wikipedia (for whatever that's worth).

Glad you like it.

I like how she sings it, I love the change-up at the end, but the lyrics just aren't to my taste.

Ah.

I'm not really sure what the lyrics are outside of the opening lines. I need to listen to it more, I think. But lyrically content isn't really a priority for me. But I totally get how that could be something that drops the song for you.

i do not make oatmeal in the microwave. stovetop, always.

that's my one contribution to the LDR discourse.

You know I'm revisiting those earlier tracks and they're really fucking good. I like them a lot more now than I did when they dropped. I think Arcadia gave them some helpful context. Or maybe it's just distance from Chemtrails?

Either way, Wildflower, Wildfire is slaying me

Is there a more quintessential LDR song than Brooklyn Baby? I've been playing it...a lot.

Wikipedia wrote: Del Rey said that she wrote the song with Lou Reed in mind. She was supposed to work with him and flew to New York City to meet him, but he died the day she arrived. He is referenced in the line "And my boyfriend's in a band/ He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed".
Crazy.
