AFFC is still the best book in the series and it's not even close.

It’s a really interesting anomaly, as it just feels so different from the books before it and the one after. The way it came to be written probably has something to do with that, it’s a fascinating history, and it makes me wonder if TWOW will also have a completely different feel due to its laborious production.

I read that. He’s never finishing book 6, Nevermind the series. He’s not even the same author who wrote the last one anyway. He lost his muse. I believe the showrunners delivered his intended ending and the audience rejected it, and now he is at sea with no confidence and no direction.

As flawed as the ending wound up being, it sure was a fun ride.

I think the first three books were the best, with the third one being GRRM at his very best. The next two were decent, but a little disappointing. A shame we never got the last two books. If we had gotten seven books out of the GRRM that wrote the first three, and he didn't go off on too many tangets, it could have been the best fantasy series ever.

There is literally nothing disappointing about A Feast of Crows.

I almost put this in the AKOTSK thread, but it’s probably big enough to post here. During an interview with the lead actors, the young dude who plays Egg let out an enormous, enormous spoiler. Dunk’s actor actually tried to stop him from saying it, but he still spit it out. This is from something unpublished, so not something you’d know if you read the books. Proceed:
Spoiler: show
Martin has apparently told the actors that Dunk survives Summerhall. It had crossed my mind that what George has said in the past—that Brienne is dunk’s descendant, probably his granddaughter—is sort of fishy, because he probably wasn’t bedding maids when he was in the King’s Guard, but this opens the door for him having a family afterwards. Maybe Martin has given them outlines of future stories for when the show surpasses the books?

Here is the video. The juicy stuff starts at about 6:40

I dunno bout that; seemed more likely he unknowingly fathered children before becoming kingsguard

Will Humfrey Beesbury get any lines to explain why he’s standing with Ser Duncan?

I’ve never read the books, but I feel like I’m starting to know as much about the history and geography of the GoT world as I do the actual real world.

Lately I’ve found myself googling questions like “Where is the best place to live in Essos?” (Probably Braavos, depending on how you feel about the climate) or “What city in Westeros has the best arts scene?” (Oldtown is where it’s at)

Pentos seems nicest climate-wise, but like most of the Free Cities, you’ll probably only have a good time if you’ve got money. Braavos seems like the only place in Essos where a working-class person can get by with a comfortable life and feel like they’re not constantly under someone else’s thumb, which makes sense given their history.

Just stay away from the ruins of Valyria and don’t try to settle Sothoryos if you value your life
