In its own right, this is a good song. The only real reason I can see for someone vehemently rejecting it as "Pearl Jam" would be if they blanketly rejected every element of this Pearl Jam direction, in which case their problem with Sirens runs deeper than Sirens, and is beside the point of the song itself (even if the song could be pulled apart for evidence of that person's dislike).

Further into the radio friendly schlock void. Sirens is the 'full retard' version of just breathe. They saw thier kinda cheesy contemporary country ballad and raised it. All it needs Miley Cyrus naked perched atop some form of demolition machinery.

Can we get a countdown poll on the number of days before harmless decides that everyone claiming not to like Sirens is a sociopath and compulsive liar?

Because of course, you are correct, when everyone closes their eyes and listens to this song Miley Cyrus demolishing a building is precisely the image that comes to mind. Not the feel of the dark room, tense silence, the sensation of shattered sleep and sudden panic and gradual relief that the song pretty successfully captures.

well look, Harmless has enough posts now that he's basically the bible. You can find some Harmless quote to back up any position. The key is to discover the one true Harmless.

Yeah, there's just very little context to Just Breathe. I find the context of Sirens (part of which my imagination and experience provides) to be the main draw, and I wish there was more of it. There's too much "love song" and too little "sirens / threat" for me. But still, I like the song and it does what it does with genuine honesty. If someone doesn't experience the same, it's no big deal, but I haven't felt this about a song since "Thumbing My Way", so I'm fairly sure it's nothing to do with being easily pleased.

they're both good songs, I think. Not great songs, but good songs that your own experiences can make great.

They're two different songs. "Intimate, tender and hushed" is not what Sirens is going for.

I think I like that the Sirens have already receded by the time he starts singing--that the song is really the aftermath. If you are woken up in terror by something it's the way you take stock of yourself and your life that is more interesting to me than the precipitating event--especially since nothing actually happened. No one got shot. No one was taken to the hospital. The sirens were for someone else, but a warning that someday they'll come for you.


I also think Just Breathe, while having less narrative, still situates itself in a tangible space. I can feel the fire in the fireplace and see the couple sitting there in the soft light.

I agree with all if this, even the sarcastic bits. It says nothing about you to me that you like the song. I just think its all those things that I mentioned above, and if you don't think those are negative things then good for you.
