The often trotted-out "incomplete tapes" excuse is bullshit.

There are any number of things they could do with a tour full of multi-tracked but incomplete shows.

There are bands that have been releasing "complete" vault concerts with alternate sources spliced during main reel changes. Chicago 1978 and Buffalo 1980 by Frank Zappa are superb examples.

And nobody would object to well-done tour compilations like the ones we make.

The truth is that they probably don't care and can't be bothered.

i'm on the tampa show now. it's been such a long time since i've listened to these shows, so it' s been nice revisiting. i think i tried to listen to all the cd's back when they were released, and it was a lot. one thing i've noticed in my listens this go 'round is how much i don't care for the placement of 'nothing as it seems.' not that i'd know where to place it--although when they opened cardiff with it i liked it.

mid-set 'nothing as it seems' does nothing for me.

From probably 1994-probably present still, we had the slow opener, 6 or 7 songs in furious pace, then the slow song to catch breath followed by mid-tempo for a bit before jumping back into high gear to finish the first set. In 2000, the slow down song was NAIS. I always liked it because I thought it might be too much to start a show, but I can see that too. It was meant to shift gears. And I love that song.

you make a great point. i mean, i know it's meant to shift gears. it's just not my thing.

still listening to this tampa show, and much like the wpb show before it (10 Aug), the first encore is pretty good, save for lyrical flubs by Ed.

i think ed fucked up DTE, but it's rare he gets it right. garden is solid. immortality--another lyric flub, but musically is great. porch is a nice finish.

started New Orleans, 14 August 2000 yesterday, and finished it on a walk this morning.

this show is great. solid run from Long road to Small Town. Off He Goes starts slow, which i love, but the tempo picks up about halfway through. Rearviewmirror closing the set is tight. i really love how well they're playing that song at the start of this leg.

once again, another terrific encore: Go, Do The Evolution, Jeremy, Crazy Mary, Black, Porch

they're playing the hell out of Porch on this tour too.

Memphis is up.

I thought Porch was a weak spot in 2000 because they just kind of cut it short. I don’t need 10 minute versions of every song (well sometimes I do), but I have always loved the way that Porch extended out.

agree. I'm very much a fan of Porch w/Dave. they were always intense, and have some of the best tags too.

I've always loved West Palm Beach 1 from 2000. Aside from a predictably unexciting Small Town and a Present Tense in which they absolutely shit the bed, every other performance is pretty spot on with great energy. I have it as a top 10 show of the tour. The following night on 8/10 is not nearly as good. But maybe give 8/9 another spin?

WPB 1 is definitely one of the sleeper hits of the 2000 tour.

How did Memphis go? Can't Help Falling in Love, Footsteps with Harmonica, Thin Air and I Got Id all stand out. One of my favorite 2000 setlists. I was way back in the arena, which was a big switch for me. However, seeing the power of Baba O'Riley from the back of the arena is something I'll never forget.
