I haven't seen Wolf, but Jorge pretty much nailed my thoughts on/impressions of American Hustle.
You should see Wolf. You are going to love it.durdencommatyler wrote:I haven't seen Wolf, but Jorge pretty much nailed my thoughts on/impressions of American Hustle.
oooh snap!turned2black wrote:Yeah, Scorsese's no J.J. Abrams.
He did a really great job in this movie, though.durdencommatyler wrote:I'm really not a fan of Jonah Hill.
De Palma and it's not even close!durdencommatyler wrote:And I think Scorsese might be the single most overrated director of his time.
Alright, that's fair. Won't argue with that.theplatypus wrote:De Palma and it's not even close!
Totally different guys, totally different styles, totally different aesthetics. Scorsese has a MUCH larger body of work. And, for my money, if we compare the films JJ has made with the films Martin has made within the same time frame, yeah, I'd rather watch those JJ Abrams films.turned2black wrote:Yeah, Scorsese's no J.J. I never thought I'd see the day when someone dismissed Scorsese and AD in the same post.BurtReynolds wrote:I always suspected the durdencommatyler account was just Stip's second, but I never had proof until now.

It's a sad day in RM history.
Sorry, friend. But I'm not dismissing either. AD is fun for what it is. I finally watched the whole and enjoyed a vast majority of it. I'm just not the superfan I wanted to be. But there's a lot of value there and I totally see why people love it.Bob Loblaw wrote:I never thought I'd see the day when someone dismissed Scorsese and AD in the same post.BurtReynolds wrote:I always suspected the durdencommatyler account was just Stip's second, but I never had proof until now.

Scorsese is an interesting, but uneven director. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and The Last Temptation of Christ are better than most movies made by most people. The man is capable of unadulterated brilliance. But I think he's made a handful of films that people rave about and revere, but I don't quite see their merit. He's interesting, but I think he's overrated by his fan base.
If anyone is the Stip of movies it's you!BurtReynolds wrote:I always suspected the durdencommatyler account was just Stip's second, but I never had proof until now.
Goodfellas is definitely one of the films I was alluding to. And I'd say underwhelming is generous.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:i plan on re-watching it, but i found Goodfellas underwhelmingdurdencommatyler wrote:Sorry, friend. But I'm not dismissing either.
