The three-year veteran of the Grand Forks Police Department was the first officer to be killed on-duty in Grand Forks since 1966, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page website. He also was a first lieutenant in the North Dakota Army National Guard. He is survived by a wife and infant son.

see, this is part of the problem. a facility that hosts concerts and University of North Dakota hockey games? really? why? because he had a badge?

we exalt cops and the profession and put them on pedestals like no others save for actors, musicians, and politicians. how many health-care workers that worked on the front lines that literally died as a result of trying to save patients have funerals in arenas preceded or followed by parades? how many do you hear about dying not in the line of duty but as a result of something else like we learned of cops' deaths from covid contracted off duty after reading about them in headlines?

perhaps if stopped treating cops like super heroes they wouldn't think that they're above the law.

It's because they also do shit like this, and at a much higher rate than killing people unjustifiably.
