I have seen it several times, but I'm kinda team trag on this. It's a masterpiece but not something I need to ever see again. I won't actively avoid it but I don't seek it out. Actually, Clockwork Orange is another one like that. Kubrick's made a lot of movies that are some of the best but are hard as fuck to watch over and over again.

for me--maybe most people--the first 30 or so minutes of full metal jacket is the movie.

I do feel like that with Clockwork Orange. Just rewatched it a month or two ago, since my wife hadn’t seen it, and she asked if we could. But I had no urge to.

I love rewatching Barry Lyndon and Dr. Strangelove.

I’ll never watch Schindler’s List or Grave of Fireflies again. Great movies but I couldn’t handle them again.

I've been trying to close some gaps in films I've never gotten around to seeing, so I watched Sex, Lies & Videotape tonight. I liked it, though I may have suffered from outsized expectations from having heard about it for such a long time before seeing it. I saw a good to really good movie when hoping for something great. In the past week or so, I've checked out California Split, Saint Maud and rewatched Paris, Texas, which had been a favorite of mine since I first saw it but hadn't checked it out for about a decade.

I also decided to try an Irish haunted house film called Caveat that's streaming on Shudder; it was more of an exercise in tension than a great film in its own right, but it makes me want to see what the director does next.

That takes a lot of the power out of the film, trag.

I'm not really a spoiler guy in general but that's a big fucking spoiler.

Of course, the movie broke my heart just as much the second time as it did the first. So, maybe it doesn't really affect the impact.

I'm seen the movie twice. Each viewing was ten years apart. I guess it's about time for another one but I don't know if I'm ready again just yet.
