Yellow Ledbetter has horrible lyrics. Noone's been able to decipher them in 20+ years!

Yellow Ledbetter isn't a great song. But regardless, if its lyrics are indecipherable the song is saved. The lyrics to Supersonic (and most of Backspacer) are crystal-clear, which is a problem when they're terrible.

Musically, YL is a great song. Mike's take on Little Wing...

That's what makes it not a great song. It's a good one though, and I enjoy it. But it's effectively an instrumental that I hum to live.

no, its great. i like that you call it an "instrumental" b/c this is probably one of the best examples of eddie vedder's voice as an instrument. it doesnt really matter what the lyrics are, his voice is so emotive it completely carries the song. i think its one of the best songs they've ever written, even if its just mike's take on a jimi hendrix song.
