You're onto something here. I think Ed specifically gave up on PJ a while ago, starting roughly when most of the band was on the edge of leaving because they weren't stadium rock enough any more.

Stone and Jeff said more than once they contemplated leaving the band during Vitalogy and No Code. What they had to say about those 2 records during the Mark Richards interview leaves little to the imagination.

i dont think it had anything to do w/ sounding "stadium rock". from what i remember, they just weren't getting the ideas they liked on record.

Mine wrote: exactly. Stadium rock is what they were before and what they are now, with exceptions obviously, but that seems to be what they want to be perceived as. "Not stadium rock enough" is their main issue with those 2 records as far as i can tell.
What else do you think their ideas could have been at the time?
