this thing must really be bombing. There is only 6 showings today at the local megasuperplex and only one show after 7pm and its in 3d. WTF.

Maybe its just a local thing.

That's it. I'm not gonna see this now.

I dont think its the mega success they might wanted, but its making strong numbers all around the world.

yea, it is still raking in the bucks. almost 23.5 million this past weekend. it lost to the boss by 50K

3 weeks out and it probably by 6 weeks it will be very close to 1 billion. hardly a flop but they were probably thinking the critics would love it since it tried to copy the marvel formula

Aren't they doing the opposite of the Marvel formula. In almost every way besides making superhero movies?

I will say it seems like they are copying the Marvel extended universe formula. The serializing, crossover characters, etc. But everything else is staunchly different.

thats what i meant, have the first few movies (though TDK isnt actually part of cannon) then start to merge them.

they (dc) are just trying to do it faster.

in marvel you had iron man, then hulk, then cap, then thor.

in ironman you get a brief view of shield (which is a character in and of itself), in ironman 2 you get black widow. in thor you get hawkeye. then after those first four movies you get avengers
ironman 2 introduces war machine, CA:TWS introduces bucky and falcon, cameos by the twins
Avengers AoU you get the vision introduced

you look at that and it is what, 5-8 years to introduce the team?

DC is trying to do this in 3 years with all their heroes at once

I guess. I don't know if Marvel should get formula credit for having properties crossover. Shouldn't it be the Universal Monsters Formula? Better yet this guy.

You mean having Sam Jackson say I'm putting a team together in the end credits of several movies?

yea that...

or how everything is pointing towards the infinity war and the introduction of the different infinity stones...how actions in one movie carry over/affect the others

while great stand alone movies (meaning you dont have to be a fan of all the marvel movies to enjoy just one in particular) you get a sense looking at them from above that there is a much bigger story in mind

I know what you mean. I was toying with being the boards resident partisan DC defender but I love me some Marvel too much.

I loved Batman v superman, didnt care much for Man of steel, and think SS will be awesome. i dont think DC is doing a bad work with these movies at all, specially when you see how cinematic their approach is...and i congratulate them for bringing everything into the table without a fuckin explanation too..i mean..Steppenwolf? Darkseid? Batman going into full vigilante mode with already 20 years into the character?

i love that.

I fucking hate everything Marvel stands for and love everything DC stands for, so maybe I should take up this mantle.

i love DC also (not as much as marvel). they have all the pieces there but they sat around for too long and now they are in a hurry to get to the finish line. if they had done this at a slower pace i think it could be both a critical and financial windfall for them. while the comic world is DC is darker and grittier and marvel is a bit more comical and good hearted i think Antman and CA:TWS have shown they can go either way (or GotG if you like) and there is no reason that DC cant do the same.
