Welp, after our first offer on our house fell through, we finally accepted another one. They are wrapping up their due diligence and we are scheduled to close on 8/12. Of course our garbage disposal went tits up and we have to replace it. Can't wait to see what else decides to act up in the next 12 days.

Thanks! Yes. Hopefully everything will close within a day or two of each other so we can just move from one to the other. Just to be safe though, we are getting a storage pod delivered to our driveway next week so we can start loading up in case we have to wait a few days to get into the new house.

The house we are buying and moving to is only a mile away as the crow flies, and just through neighborhood streets. I'm torn on whether or not to pack shit up into boxes or just move all the small stuff one room at a time with our cars (4 available with the two kids here for the summer) and just rent a small box truck for the big furniture. This putting shit in boxes is getting old.

Are you looking to purge a bit? I would totally go with the latter, recall my former wife moving down the block and literally walking everything ended up being a huge time saver. But should you be looking to purge, boxes might be helpful. Moved in to my house in 2011, boxes that were in the basement still sealed were tossed in the rented dumpster right after the 2016 refinance.

We moved about a mile last year, and while we did hire movers with a big truck, I did a lot of smaller trips in my car and it was way more tiring than I thought. We’re old, man.

Well let me introduce you to the last - 'It's done, I can walk away from this' project.

In the entrance to our house we have this hedge which had a rangi-ass tree behind it that my wife hated and has wanted me to get rid of for ages.


I finally got around to getting rid of it - and built a water feature to go in its place


I've made a few changes to the light, but this is effectively it at night

Other wee improvements/tidying I've been doing around the place



I've added lighting and junk as well

This was just proving to be an endless battle of seeds and weeds coming through

Now I just need to fix up the net



Going to turn the raised garden bed into a herb garden


And then we have the other area where I built the fire-pit table thing.....

One of our glass panel pool gates wasn’t closing so I tried to align it. As I got deeper into it, I knew in the back of my head I should have someone else there holding the gate, but alas I’m an idiot. Off the hinges, glass everywhere, dogs in the area.

I was unscathed but the dogs decided to play keep away as I tired to wrangle them inside, and there was some blood, so off to a nearby vet first. They’re okay, but this gate is going to be expensive.

$800 plus GST, not as bad as I thought.

Plus the $128 vet bill.

And my bruised pride.

Still plenty to remind me to never mess with a glass pool gate again.

Oh and I was planning on putting together the dogs’ new kennel that showed up today, but perhaps I am not in the right headspace now. It involves riveting.

Or is it just the accomplishment I need to get my big DIY dick swinging again?
