You are correct, it is, but that fact is evidence of a societal level failure. At some point we popularized worshiping the political speaker instead of what was spoken and that shift is a large part of what has caused the spiral we are in.

i think there are more people who actually care about what is spoken more than who worship the speaker. maga, bernie brothers and ultra libs care more about the speakers but that isnt a majority by any stretch

Honestly, given that their policies are largely set in stone by the machine (that runs with or without them,) and they can - and do - break any and all campaign promises, studying their policy positions is a complete waste of time. I don't waste time with such nonsense.

As Burt said, the problem is that what is spoken is largely bullshit (as is most of the news) so being informed is worthless.

I disagree and I think there are two things here:

1.) The words have little value because we care more about the speaker. That's the (mc)paradigm that must be inverted.

2.) Breaking the cycle of unalterable establishment control is one of the reasons Trump is so hated. He did so much dumb shit that was counter the establishment he proved change could be made, even if the specific changes he made were net negative to the country.

I said Trump proved change was possible and that people shouldn't ignore that revelation just because they don't like the particular changes he made.

I'm sure 90% of the people who post regularly in this thread have zero interest in what Ezra Klein has to say, but the most recent episode of The Ezra Klein Podcast (a 45 minute editorial essay) really nails all of this (Trump and messenger/message, etc) really well. He knocks it out of the park. I can't recommend it enough.

I'm the most liberally liberal person I know, and even I can't listen to Ezra Klein for more than 10 minutes.
