This is so wrong. I'm surrounded by libertarians in MT. While they are pro-guns and anti-regulation on business, they are also pro-pot and pro-gay marriage.
Yep. I'm pro freedom and individual rights, anti big government interference in people's lives.

Seriously though man, you sound like a fucking idiot when you comment without knowledge.
I was happy with Gary Johnson's stance on environmental regulation during the election (basically that they were pro-business, but accepted that climate science was sound and that there did need to be some strong environmental protections in place). If only the libertarians would embrace tougher gun control laws, I'd be on board.
I wasn't a huge fan of Gary. Libertarians could have actually made a dent in the last election if they had nominated a better candidate, especially since pretty much everybody hated Clinton and Trump. Stronger gun control laws fly opposite of libertarianism because libertarians promote personal choice and freedom and limiting government interference on individual rights.

Gary Johnson was an awful candidate. That election was a golden opportunity for Libertarians and Johnson completely blew it.

Yea, I get that. But if Gary's stance on environmental protections could be a bit outside of the box, why not gun control? If they embraced trigger ID technology with much stricter background checks, I'd be happy.

Again, he wasn't the best nomination because he doesn't really represent true libertarianism. I also get where you are coming from, even if I don't entirely agree.

Yes. In general, I think by and large it's better to at least acknowledge your biases (and everyone has them). I undoubtedly have partisan leanings that may make me err towards one idea of a narrative, based on my own feelings about the world and prior experience, but if I'm aware enough to acknowledge that at least I can have a shot at noticing when those biases are getting in the way of the facts. Speaking from my own personal experience, the 'plague on all houses' approach hasn't meant people didn't have those biases as much as that they didn't acknowledge they existed, usually served with a big slice of self-righteousness.

I wonder how and if this conversation happens as more and more videos start coming out like this.
I'm doubtful, but there's no doubt the way police shootings and misconduct are talked about have changed with the sheer quantity of video available now.

I once sat through a guest lecture by a libertarian health care advocacy group who were also pro-allowing businesses to decide for themselves if they wanted to be wheelchair accessible, and pro-risking your child's life because he has diabetes and you don't believe in medicine.
Libertarianism feels to me like the white people problems version of desiring freedoms.

I'd be surprised if he's either of those things.
These people weren't either. They just acknowledged, in the face of some very pointed questions, that the type of deregulation and reduced government influence they were advocating for led down that path. They put a pretty sunny spin on it tho.

The act of risking a child's life because you don't believe in medicine isn't a libertarian position. It's a Christian Scientist position, and it's retarded. Allowing a parent to have the freedom to make medical decisions as they see fit is Libertarian. The idea that some government official off in some building somewhere knows how to better parent a child than its own parents is extremely dangerous. Obviously some parents are complete morons, but unless you want to start regulating who can and can't have kids (which would be insane), that will never change. Some (most) elected officials are complete morons too, and I wouldn't want to give that kind of power to anyone.

I feel like you're doing some mental gymnastics here. You need regulations in place so lunatic parents aren't allowed to let their children die because of their insane beliefs. If the liberarian position is against that regulation, then it is in favor of letting it happen.
