This is surprising. Especially since you seem so passionate about your comic book movie opinions. This kinda messes with my perception of your opinions on comic book movies.

I like or dislike them as movies. Source material doesn't matter.

Apparently the Flash director and now maybe the Aquaman director are dropping out due to a bunch of pressure because of BvS's poor reception. This really sucks, because this movie is great and did not deserve the negative reception. I really like the approach and direction BvS is going, very sci-fi comic book-y sorta direction. BvS seems very unique in a world of superhero movies that are all kinda starting to feel the same. I hope DC/WB don't decide to water everything down in an attempt to capture Marvel's success.

Also sounds like, unsurprisingly, execs are pressuring Snyder to alter his vision for Justice League.

"Pride & Prejudice & Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" writer Seth Grahame-Smith, who was attached to direct the upcoming "The Flash" movie for Warner Bros. Pictures, has left that project over "creative differences".

There is nothing about this quote that makes me feel bad. Relieved maybe.

That would be an improvement over Fast and Bland 27 but I doubt he could manage it.

So I finally saw this. With the caveat that I was watching it on a small screen which I know is sub optimal, this was not a good movie. With one-two exceptions the fights were not that interesting (mostly people flying at each other in the dark or standing at ground zero of massive explosions, and the character motivations were all essentially nonsensical, which means no one had any reason to do anything, and nothing made sense---far beyond the normal suspension of disbelief levels I would go into a movie like this with.


Some comments:

1--The Knightmare sequence was a little disappointing, since the fight scenes had way too much of guys standing around waiting their turn to be hit.

2--That was too bad, because the scene where batman attacks the warehouse of thugs to rescue martha was a lot of fun. The highlight of the movie.

3-Even by comic book movie standards the attempts to shoehorn in future justice league stuff was ridiculous.

4--Affleck was fine. I was kind of let down since I had heard how good he was. No real complaints, but nothing stood out.

5--The battle of metropolis from the street level perspective was quite good.

6--I don't like how little of a voice superman had in this movie. If Superman was something the rest of the world just reacted to (a presence in the distance or off screen), like if the whole movie was from the battle of metropolis perspective, it would have been fine. But if you make him a character he should be able to speak for himself. The whole movie is people telling superman who he is or isn't. And while he does get that moment in the end where he suddenly decides he cares about the earth it isn't quite clear why.

7--I get the accountability concern (although Holly Hunter was kind of hard to watch in this), which was fine. The animosity towards superman is very hard to fathom in a world where it was clearly established that evil space aliens attacked earth and he was the one who saved them

8--The idea that a superman intervention in the middle east that led to civilian deaths could turn people against superman defies any and all credulity in a world of drone strikes and hundreds of thousands of civillain deaths that can be traced directly or indirectly back tot he US.

9--I get why Luthor would have had batman try and kill superman, or why he would want to see superman dead, but the motivation behind creating doomsday makes zero sense.

10--I'm not sure how seeing superman kill batman would destroy superman's reputation in the eyes of the world. especially as batman isn't necessarily publicly known.

11--The messiah imagery was laid on a bit thick, especially since there wasn't a whole lot of earned substance behind any of it. Yes, superman is jesus, but what does that actually mean? What is the idea underneath the image?

12--I see where they were going with it, but the Martha naming sequence was actually even stupider than I imagined in execution.

13--The Batman/Superman fight made no sense. Under these circumstances why would superman ever have started laying into batman when it wasn't clear that he could survive those blows.

14--I liked the design of the batmobile and the batjet, but the scenes they were in were so poorly lit you couldn't really appreciate what they were doing. Somehow when Nolan shot similar scenes in the dark the vehicles were always clearly in frame and you could follow the cool stuff they were doing

15--Superman surviving a nuke makes this character utterly uninteresting going forward

16--Maybe this was dropped in editing, but a brief explanation of WW's lasso would have been helpful

17--Why would wayne be interested in finding the other metahumans, and why would WW help him. Because Wayne had some bad dreams?

18--WW said she walked away from the world after WWI, yet she's still out and about, using ATM machines, maintaining a presence in the world.

19--WW had some nice facial expressions during her fight but there were no particularly cool moves (other than the strong character flying in a straight line at someone else that we see all the time with superman), and I have no idea what her personality or character were.

20--Amy Adams in the bathtub was nice

21--Giving away superman's return (not that we don't know this is coming) in the final shot cheapened the solemnity of his death

A lot of these are little points you could overlook if the larger movie was good. But it wasn't and these things just build and build on each other until the final product was just a mess. Man of Steel was significantly better than this.
