i've only seen it start to finish maybe 3 times, but i've had it playing in the background at least a few more...unpopular opinion, but it's near the top of my favorite fincher flicks

It's up there for me as well. But Mank is the only Fincher film I don't really enjoy on some level. The guy is a legit master.

Fincher is awesome yeah. I love Mank. I think Benjamin Button is the one i dont want to revisit.

I get that. And for me Benjamin Button is another undeniable masterpiece. That's probably my "unpopular opinion" regarding Finch. BB is toward the top of my Fincher rankings, for sure.

haven't seen Mank...and joey is going to yell at me, but for some reason fincher's movies don't always completely work for me...at least not enough to put them atop my all time favorites lists, and i can't pinpoint why

it's not even a criticism because i watch the movies, not including benjamin button, and admire so much about them

If you ever figure out what it is, I'd love to know. The guy continues to blow my mind. He's undoubtedly one of the best American film makers of his generation -- maybe all time.

maybe the lack of full penetration? i'm about to look at his films and attempt a ranking, just for kicks

Zodiac
The Social Network
Fight Club
Seven
The Game
Gone Girl
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (only seen it once so probably need a rewatch)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (this was underwhelming on one viewing, but there were parts i really liked... though i am willing to consider thinking about the possibility of giving it another try)
Panic Room

Man! What a great filmography. Even with a couple missing it's impressive.

i almost wanted to put Panic Room ahead of Benjamin Button, because I do think it's very effective in what it set out to do...just obviously less ambitious than the others

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

yeah both Panic Room and The Game feel like minor entries and they are still marvelous in their craft. But i feel with Zodiac he went to another level of filmmaking. The same with both Gone Girl and Social Network.
