New Buffalo, MI is nice and not far from Chicago. The Argonaut wrote:I am considering a week-long trip to Lake Michigan at the end of the summer. I was thinking of finding a good place for a couple days somewhere on the Michigan coast then work my way around to somewhere on the Wisconsin side for a few days, spending some time in Chicago and Milwaukee and day trips to Lansing and Madison mixed in.
If anyone knows any pleasant beach towns on either coast, I welcome suggestions. I'm not opposed to tent camping if any of those suggestions are for nice parks with campgrounds.
Thanks for any suggestions

we have a place in northwest michigan and know the west coast very well. if you're driving up michigan, through the UP, and then back down wisconsin, i would recommend beach the towns south haven and grand haven in SW michigan. you can then take 31 up the coast through muskegon, frankfort (crystal lake is right there), empire (sleeping bear dunes), around the leelanau pennisula (leland and sutton's bay are cool), and then through traverse city and up to petosky and harbor springs (the water will be way colder at this point though) before you hit the bridge. The Argonaut wrote:I am considering a week-long trip to Lake Michigan at the end of the summer.
