Stip i saw Batman v Superman twice, and yes....it could be a mess or not depending on your knowledge of the dc comics world, but its a movie for sure...Captain America seems like a really expensive tv film, there is no framing, no lightning, no visual idea that comes near this one...straightforward storytelling that belongs to a 10 year made for tv big film.

Its surprising that Stip didn't enjoy watching a cam version of the movie on his iPhone.

I agree with every single one of stips points. I dont know if seeing it in theaters would have made a difference for him.

though, maybe its like watching pj on youtube and seeing them in person. I dont know.

So I can't speak to any captain america comparisons, and again I did not see BvS in anything approaching optimal conditions. But this didn't really strike me as much of a movie either. There was very little in the way of movement. It felt like Zach Snyder wanted to make a coffee table book of individual shots, and the scenes that were dynamic felt like a flip book of still images moving fast.

Seriously, did any of the fight scenes not involving batman fighting ordinary people NOT simply consist of what was essentially a still shot of one of the heroes leaping forward without moving while the background changed behind them? It was like watching japanamation from the 80s. Plus everything was so dark and smokey you couldn't really see what was happening to begin with. And any action that wasn't two people leaping at each other in a straight line was two people standing around while red CG explosions happened around them.

And perhaps the Civil War storytelling is straightforward (I'll comment after I see it tonight), but the storytelling in BvS was practically non-existent. And if you look through my comments I don't think any of them have much to do with my knowledge of DC comics (I recognized the darkseid symbol in the desert). It has everything to do with a nonsensical plot where no character had any motivation and every idea was ham fistedly executed. Overlaying a series of dramatic poses that fall apart outside of freeze frame hardly compensates for that.

That is, frankly, incorrect, stip. This movie, like all Snyder movies, is FILLED with motion. Say what you will about his storytelling, but he is a virtuoso visualist and editor. His motion is incredibly rhythmic, even musical. I really don't know what the hell you were watching if you think it was just static shots. Perhaps the bootlegger wasn't doing a very good job framing his camcorder.

That could be. Any visual comment I make has a huge asterisk next to it.

To be clear, there is lots of motion, but so much of it felt ridged - especially during the final two fights and doubly especially when superman and Wonder Woman were fighting doomsday. Again, the thing it called to mind was a high end version of old cartoon/video games where there was a simple animation and a blurred background to give a sense of motion

What this movie needed was more quick cuts!

That's not what I'm saying. What it could have used was interesting choreography. What was there was incredibly flat and uninteresting, excepting the assault on the warehouse, which I thoroughly enjoyed
