7/4 isn't a weird time signature?

It just sounds weird because the change makes it sound like there's an extra beat coming from nowhere. However, there is nothing weird or uncommon about the time signatures in the song.
Even though the time signatures are common, you could say that alternating between 3/4 and 4/4 like that is pretty uncommon. Certainly is for Pearl Jam. I love how it is used in "Low Light," it is a momentarily disorienting effect that perfectly complements the song's breeziness.
Poll: Which PJ song is breezier?

1) Low Light
2) Breeze in D

6/4, then 7/4.

Have a look at the music sheets for it and it'll show 3/4 and 4/4.

Ill see if I can find one.

I know it's the piano version, but the timing is still the same:

I couldn’t identify any of these time signatures with a gun to my head (OK, I’d manage 4/4 so long as I didn’t get it mixed up with 2/4).

Those sheets are just interpretations of the recording. And anyway, I wouldn't say it's in 6/4 at all. The feel is 6/8 for most of the song with hanging bars of 4

I’ve been playing musical instruments for over twenty years (albeit not very well) and can’t quite get my head around it either.

the drumming is a 6/8 beat, not 3/4. there’d be twice as many snare beats if it was 3/4.

Getaway starts promising and then when Ed appears its like ...oh fuck. The guitars are so shinny, so bright. So fucking clean. Brendan fucking everything up again.
At least Jeff is saving the groove again. Matt does sound bored. Its like they got another drummer.

I like the chorus, and the end is really cool, it has urgency, it has PJ written all over, and again brendan fucks it up...when the two guitars are fucking going for it he mute them.

Fuuuuck you
